Monday morning saw our Y11s start the day with their first whole year group exam for English Literature. Although a little apprehensive as they lined up, it was a joy to see them as they came out of the exam. The Booster session devised by Mr Smith on Friday had prepared them well and had even accurately predicted some of the questions. Students have seen the power of these revision sessions and the importance they have during the exam season.

Wow – in what was supposed to be a calm and steady 4 day week, turned out to be much bigger than we originally anticipated! On Wednesday and Thursday we welcomed our visitors to the school, and we cannot be more proud of our students in the way they demonstrated their pride for our school in all of their lessons and beyond. We also want to thank the parents and carers who took the time to complete the survey and especially to those who added such positive, impactful comments – we were blown away by your support. I have to ask you to be a little patient as we await the inspection report, as soon as it arrives and has been validated, we will share the findings with you.

As one of the shortest terms on record, it really does feel like we are packing 6 weeks into 4 ! Alongside our talented GCSE textiles, art, photography, 3D design students completing their practical exams, and the external moderation of our GCSE PE students, some of our Y9s have enjoyed a week in St Ives, other Y9s have experienced the Imperial War museum in London, our Y10 Duke of Edinburgh students have embarked on their practical training and 120 of our Y7 and Y8 students have participated in the Junior Maths Challenge. Thursday evening we hosted the Primary School Mini-Olympics where 12 primary schools came together to showcase their talent, ably supported by our brilliant Sports Leaders and our Extend summer term clubs have begun including rehearsals for ‘We Will Rock You’ of which the songs are already a persistent ear-worm of mine – I cannot wait to see the final productions. In spite of the welcome warmth this week, our students have settled back into lessons with drive and determination and this morning, they had an extended tutor time reflecting on their most recent Active Minds reports and completing their journals.

We are finally here at the end of a very long, but brilliant term. This week we have celebrated all the student successes in the STEP Awards assemblies – congratulations to all who received acknowledgement for their superb endeavours over terms 3 & 4. Aside from the many practical GCSE exams taking place in textiles, fine art and photography this week, the Y11s have also had a chance to review their final round of Mock Exams results in a Review and Reflect session. Not only a chance to identify subject specific next steps, it also gave the opportunity to look at the Post 16 options chosen.

It was wonderful to see our students in their summer uniform this week and although a little nippy in the mornings, the sun has been out in full force all week. We had the privilege of seeing the whole school gather together at the end of lunch on Tuesday for our Fire Drill. As always, the students were exemplary and to reward them for the responsibility taken, we have decided to hold a non-uniform day on Friday 11 th April – more details below. The sunshine has also helped our attendance further this week – we have reached 92% year-to-date and on one day this week, we hit 93%!

Firstly, an enormous thank you to the 298 parents who completed our survey, this was even higher than last year! A further thank you for your support in our students attending school as often as they possibly can. We have set ourself the goal of 93% attendance this year, in line with ‘green’ on our Unlocking Potential strategy and the school has been hovering at 91.9% for the last few weeks – it would be amazing to click over to 92% as this would put us a whole percentage point over the regional average and over the current national average of 91.7%. Our Y7 boys have to be commended – they are inspirational in their attendance figures of 96.2% !
