Curriculum intent

To continuously equip students with a range of enterprise skills and entrepreneurial knowledge. To create time to apply subject specific knowledge, skills and concepts to a wide variety of different Business contexts. To support student development in financial capability including personal and business finance circumstances. To enable students to gain an understanding of how economic and political factors affect the real world around us. To allow students to become workplace ready by developing their marketing awareness. To provide opportunities for students to immerse themselves in developing their employability skills, ready to guide their future career choices.

What topics will my child study? 

Over the year, pupils will cover for Component 1: Exploring Enterprises:

  • Understand how and why enterprises and entrepreneurs are successful
  • Understand customer needs and competitor behaviour through market research
  • Understand how the outcomes of situational analyses may affect enterprises.

For Component 3: Marketing and Finance for Enterprise:

  • Marketing activities - Targeting and segmenting the market
  • 4Ps of the marketing mix
  • Factors influencing the choice of marketing methods
  • Trust, reputation and loyalty
What knowledge will they have and what will they be able to do by the end of the year?

Students will be able to show have completed component 1 assessment and have covered the marketing aspect of component 3 for their terminal examination.

What homework will they get?

In Year 10, homework will be revising concepts already learnt using knowledge organisers. Extra homework maybe given to complete work not finished in class or missing work due to school absence where applicable.

How will they be assessed in Enterprise?
  • They would have to complete a controlled assessment piece for component 1
  • They will have a multiple-choice online test at various parts of the term, which will include work they have done in previous units, building up their knowledge for their BTEC exam
  • Work will be continually assessed in lessons to ensure reporting of progress is accurate
  • Final assessment will be made by public examinations in Year 11 for the subject
As a parent, how can I help my child in this subject?

Ensure that they revise topics/ concepts continuously through the year, not just for exams. 

Encourage them to explain to you what they have been learning in lessons.

What other opportunities do they have outside of the classroom?

A trip to Cadbury World in Birmingham to look at different aspects of Enterprise (TBC)

  • Choosing an idea and produce a plan for a micro-enterprise idea
  • Present a plan for the micro-enterprise idea to meet specific requirements
  • Review the presentation of the micro-enterprise idea to meet specific requirements

Throughout the year for Component 3: Marketing and Finance for Enterprise:

  • Financial documents and statements
  • Payment methods
  • Revenue and costs
  • Financial statements
  • Profitability and liquidity
  • Financial planning and forecasting
  • Budgeting
  • Cash flow
  • Break-even point and break-even analysis
  • Sources of business finance
